11-desk-accessories-for-improving-productivity

Did you know that on average, we spend close to one third of our lives in the office? This means that we spend more hours in a week with our colleagues than with our family and friends, and we also spend the majority of our time sat at our desk staring at our screens.

A study published in Psychological Science reported associations with the state of one's desk and generosity, creativity and even healthy eating. Making our desks feel more homely and personal to us also encourages us to feel more positive and productive. Rather than just having the standard office accessories such as stationery set, a pen pot, tape dispenser and sticky notes, here are 11 essential office desk accessories that will help promote productivity:

Stress Ball

Stress ball

It goes without saying that a high number of office jobs come with daily pressures and deadlines which as a result can leave us feeling stressed at times. The way in which we deal with stress is important, as developing healthy responses to it puts us in control and makes us mentally resilient. A stress ball is a great way to relieve tension and pent up frustration in a positive way. Having one to hand for when you’re feeling overwhelmed is a great way to de-stress and calm yourself down.

Motivational mug

If you work in an office, it’s likely that you rely on caffeine to get you through the day. Instead of having a standard mug or using one of the company’s, invest in a personalised mug or one with a picture or motivational quote on. This will help you feel a little more at home, and is likely to make you feel more positive whenever you pop for a coffee break!

Headphone stand

Office storage can sometimes be limiting or a little boring, but it doesn't have to be that way. Forget ring binders, pen holders and storage boxes, instead focus on updating your space and making use of the items you use daily. There are now stands and storage solutions for a number of different desk accessories, both personal and professional. Save your headphones from getting tangled and invest in a headphone stand for your desk so they remain safe and secure at all times.

Ergonomic chair

When you’re sat at a desk all day, being comfortable is key. Maintaining a good posture and having optimal back support will help you to concentrate and will also prevent any uncomfortable aches and pains. An ergonomic chair promotes good posture, reduces pain and when you're comfortable all day; you're more likely to have a productivity boost.

Photo frames

Personalising your desk space is one of the easiest ways to make you feel more motivated and positive in work. Having some of your favourite memories and pictures of family and friends in photo frames can help promote happiness and uplift you if you're ever feeling low.

Desk vacuum cleaner

There’s nothing more annoying than dust and crumbs on your keyboard, and they can also be really difficult to get out which is why every office-worker needs a mini desk vacuum cleaner to help keep your desk tidy and keyboard clean. Anti-bacterial wipes are also ideal to keep in your drawer.

Desk organiser

There’s no doubt about it that being more organised has a direct impact on our motivation levels. Ensuring your desk is in order with sufficient desk storage, and knowing exactly where everything is leaves less room for stress; after all a clear space = clear mind. Choose a sleek and stylish desk organiser, letter tray or box file to store all of your belongings in to allow for an easier day.

A plant

According to The Guardian, a plant 'brightens your work experience'. They've been claimed to help reduce fatigue, stress, and increase attention span and productivity levels. They're also a great way to improve indoor air quality; no modern desk is complete without a mini cactus!

Try peppermint to reduce headaches, sweet orange oil to reduce anxiety levels and rosemary oil to increase brain wave activity and combat the stress hormone cortisol.

Coloured accessories

Adding a splash of colour to your desk is a great way to brighten your space and make it look more attractive. Not only will it look better, but implementing colours into your office area also induces emotions, for example yellow is commonly known for enhancing energy and optimism, while blue is affiliated with relaxation and focus. Green evokes tranquillity and pink is a sign of hope.
