75% of work staff cannot adjust their office chair

can you adjust your chair

Just a few months after launching the C.A.P.S campaign, which endeavours to promote the importance of circulation, activity, posture and support, ergonomic seating and desk designers Century Office are already seeing great results. In February, Century Office unveiled a new campaign, the “Importance of C.A.P.S.”, designed to improve employee welfare in and around the Essex/Suffolk area. The campaign was sparked by the increasing number of complaints regarding bad backs in the workplace. Determined to provide a solution, Century Office decided to offer their local customers and companies an interactive demonstration for staff on the “Importance of C.A.P.S.” Initiated by Century Office’s Managing Director and Product Designer, Steve Bays, the C.A.P.S. campaign includes showing employees the functions of their chairs and how to set it up accordingly to achieve the correct seating position and posture.Three months have passed and already the C.A.P.S. campaign is proving successful. In a recent survey, conducted by Century Office, participants were asked three questions before and after the demonstration:

Before did you know…

What adjustability functions your chair has?

  • 25% of staff said yes
  • 0% of staff said vaguely
  • 75% of staff said no

The correct way you should be sitting at your desk/computer?

  • 33% of staff said yes
  • 16% of staff said vaguely
  • 50% of staff said no

How to achieve the correct posture by adjusting your chair?

  • 17% of staff said yes
  • 0% of staff said vaguely
  • 83% of staff said no

An overwhelming number of participants were not aware of the many features that their chairs have. When asked the same questions after the demo, the answers were drastically different:

Do you know now…

What adjustability functions your chair has?

  • 100% of staff said yes
  • 0% of staff said vaguely
  • 0% of staff said no

The correct way to you should be sitting at your desk/computer?

  • 100% of staff said yes
  • 0% of staff said vaguely
  • 0% of staff said no

How to achieve the correct posture by adjusting your chair?

  • 100% of staff said yes
  • 0% of staff said vaguely
  • 0% of staff said no

The circulation, activity, posture and support (C.A.P.S.) initiative, taken by Century Office, shows the incredible improvement the interactive demonstration produced. 100% of participants expressed that they no longer were unaware of how to achieve a correct seating position. One that is both comfortable and beneficial for employee health in the workplace. The numbers are not the only factor that showcases the success of the circulation, activity, posture and support (C.A.P.S.) campaign, staff have also been very quick to praise it. One participant said that the demo “covered everything I wanted to know”, another commented that they “found the demonstration very useful”, while a third confirmed the outcome that Century Office had always hoped for, by saying that it was all “Very helpful as I have felt uncomfortable in my work chair for a while. Now I understand the functions of the chair and can adjust to suit”.

The Importance of circulation, activity, posture and support (C.A.P.S.) campaign set out in February to educate employers and employees alike on how to get the most out of their office chairs. After an overwhelmingly positive response, Century Office are continuing to battle the bad backs of the office with high quality and affordable ergonomic design.
